In Sonoma, life moves at the speed of the Plaza. Long lunches, the Tuesday farmers market in season and long, warm summer days. We design and build outdoor living spaces for homeowners in Sonoma who want their own yard to feel the same way.

Why We Love Building in Sonoma

Sonoma Plaza is a National Historic Landmark District and is often called the largest plaza in California. City Hall sits in the middle, built with four identical sides so no group of merchants would be favored. Around it are Mission San Francisco Solano, founded in 1823 as the last and northernmost of the California missions, the Blue Wing Inn, the Toscano Hotel and shops along Spain Street.

This is where the Bear Flag Revolt began on June 14, 1846. Today it is the center of a town of about 11,000 people, with vineyards and wineries close by.

What We Create Here

Outdoor living, designed and built as one.

Favorite Sonoma Projects

In a Sonoma yard, the first design question is usually where the afternoon shade will fall. Everything else is planned around that answer.

Local Conditions

Built for the land you live on.

Sonoma sits in the Sonoma Valley, with Sonoma Creek as its main watercourse, and summers here are hot and dry. The 2017 Nuns Fire burned east and north of town, and many homeowners now think carefully about fire-aware design. Properties in mapped fire hazard severity zones may have added rules for materials and defensible space, and the historic center can carry its own design considerations. Permits go through the City of Sonoma. We confirm what applies during planning.

Wine Country Living

Built for long meals and warm nights.

Sonoma's normal July high is close to 89°F, and the town has recorded 116°F. Summers are hot and dry, so the best Sonoma yards are planned around shade, stone and gathering. Think a covered dining terrace, an outdoor kitchen with room for a pizza oven, and drought-tolerant planting with olives, lavender and grasses.

We often pair natural stone, pergolas and soft landscape lighting so the space feels like part of the valley, not a copy of somewhere else.

Questions

What local homeowners ask us.

Can you create a wine country feel without a huge lot?

Yes. Even a modest yard can hold a shaded dining area, a fire feature and layered planting when it is designed well.

Does my home near the Plaza have special rules?

Homes in and near Sonoma's historic center may have added design review. We check this during design and planning.
