Schedule a Discovery ConsultationEl Sobrante sits in the valley along San Pablo Creek, with hills on both sides and Kennedy Grove and the San Pablo Reservoir just up San Pablo Dam Road. Some yards here still have horses and chickens. Others back up to open space.
We design and build outdoor living spaces for El Sobrante homeowners who have the room and want to make all of it usable.

El Sobrante is unincorporated, so it never got the tidy city grid. Lots are often bigger and more irregular, especially out along Castro Ranch Road, where some descendants of the Castro family, who were deeded Rancho El Sobrante in 1841, still live. Residents talk about sitting right at the fog line, watching it roll off the hills while the valley stays sunny.
Open space is close on every side. Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve covers 272 acres on the ridge toward Pinole, Wildcat Canyon is reachable from Clark Street, and the golden dome of the Gurdwara Sahib sits high in the hills above San Pablo Dam Road. From a lot of backyards, at least one of them is in view.
That mix of space, sun and slope makes for great outdoor living if the yard is planned as a whole.
Bigger lots are where a full plan pays off most. We design the whole property in phases if needed, so the first stage fits the final picture.

Because El Sobrante is unincorporated, building permits go through Contra Costa County rather than a city. Hillside parcels near Wildcat Canyon, Sobrante Ridge and the reservoir can fall in fire hazard zones with added requirements, and creekside lots near San Pablo Creek may have their own setbacks. We confirm both with the county during planning.
Many hillside yards here also sit on clay soils and uneven grades, so drainage and wall engineering get worked out early, before materials are chosen.
Every project begins with a discovery consultation. We learn about your home, your goals and how you want to live outside, then recommend the right next step.
Schedule a Discovery ConsultationContra Costa County, since El Sobrante is not part of a city. We handle that coordination as part of planning.
With a full site walk and a plan for the whole property, so the patio, walls, paths and planting are designed together. That starts with a Discovery Consultation.
Not a problem, but it matters. It can affect fire-safe material and plant choices, which we build into the design.
