Hercules sits on the southeastern shore of San Pablo Bay, with rolling hills along Refugio Valley Road and a waterfront that has been rebuilt over the last decade. Many homes here are in planned neighborhoods with good bones and yards that were never finished beyond builder basics.

We design and build outdoor living spaces for Hercules homeowners ready to change that, with one plan and one team from design through the final walkthrough.

A Former Company Town, Now a Bayside Suburb

Hercules began as a dynamite plant. The California Powder Works opened here in 1881, the town incorporated in 1900, and until the 1970s everyone who lived here worked for the company. Today it has six city parks, more than 950 acres of open space, the Bay Trail along the water and Refugio Valley Park in the middle of town.

The waterfront has changed the most. A 2000 city plan called for redeveloping the old industrial shoreline, and several mixed-use buildings have gone up there since 2015, with a Capitol Corridor rail stop in the works. Inland, Refugio Creek runs through the middle of town to the bay.

The climate is mild, warmer than spots closer to the Golden Gate, with July highs averaging around 71 degrees. That is ideal weather for a yard used most of the year.

Where Hercules Projects Usually Start

Most Hercules yards we see need the basics replaced and a real plan added. Common pieces:

Mild weather means a Hercules yard can be used most of the year, so we design it to work in every season, not just summer.

Local Conditions

Built for the land you live on.

Many Hercules neighborhoods have HOAs with design guidelines for visible changes, so we review CC&Rs early. Inland lots along Refugio Valley often have gentle slopes that call for good drainage. Permits go through the City of Hercules, and we confirm fire hazard zone status and any added requirements for your parcel during planning.

Questions

What local homeowners ask us.

Our HOA has design rules. Can you work within them?

Yes. We review your guidelines early and design so the submittal is straightforward.

Can you replace the builder-grade patio we have now?

That is one of the most common Hercules projects we plan. We remove what is there and design a patio, kitchen or seating area that fits how you use the yard.

How do we start?
