Dublin has grown faster than almost anywhere in California. The city had about 13,500 residents in 1980 and more than 72,000 by 2020. That means thousands of newer homes in Dublin Ranch, Positano, Jordan Ranch and Wallis Ranch, many with backyards still waiting for a real plan.

We design and build outdoor living spaces for homeowners in Dublin, and we know how to make a compact yard work hard.

What Makes Dublin, Dublin

Every March the city goes green for its St. Patrick's Day festival and parade, a nod to the Irish settlers who gave Dublin its name. The rest of the year, families fill Emerald Glen Park, the city's largest, with The Wave aquatic center, and the fields at Fallon Sports Park in East Dublin. Dublin Heritage Park and Museums, on 10 acres at Donlon Way and Dublin Boulevard, keeps the town's pioneer story close to downtown.

Then and Now

A Crossroads Town

In 1835, José María Amador received a 16,517 acre land grant, and the Amador Valley still carries his name. Irish settlers bought land from him around 1850 and built a town at the crossroads of two stagecoach routes, one running to Stockton and the other between Martinez and San Jose.

The Murray Schoolhouse opened in 1856. Old St. Raymond's Church followed in 1859, on land donated by the Murray and Fallon families. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Dublin incorporated on February 1, 1982.

Local Conditions

Built for the land you live on.

Clay soils common around Dublin, including the Diablo and Pescadero series, have high shrink-swell potential. We plan base prep and drainage to handle it. Much of the city's water is delivered by the Dublin San Ramon Services District, with supply from Zone 7. Permits come through the City of Dublin, and most newer neighborhoods have HOA review. Hillside homes on the west side may fall in mapped fire hazard zones, which we check during planning.

New Construction Yards

Small lots reward a careful plan.

Many Dublin homes sit on lots where every square foot counts. When the yard is compact, nothing can be an afterthought. Placement of the grill, the seating, the shade and the walkway to the side gate has to be worked out together.

That is why we design first. A scaled plan shows how a dining area, a lounge corner and a strip of planting can share one yard without feeling crowded. It also catches the details that new yards often hide, such as drainage paths, utility boxes and HOA setbacks.

Questions

What local homeowners ask us.

Do I need HOA approval for backyard work in Dublin?

Most newer Dublin neighborhoods have HOAs that review exterior work. We prepare plans and material details for your submittal.

Can you work with a narrow side yard for access?

Yes. Tight access is common on newer lots. We plan equipment and material delivery around it during design.

What fits in a small Dublin backyard?

More than most people expect. A patio, a compact kitchen or fire pit, shade and planting can all fit with a good plan. Try our style quiz for ideas.
